If you are experiencing an EMERGENCY DIAL 911

The Fair Haven Police Department was founded in 1963 upon the merger of the Town and Village of Fair Haven into one. In 1963 Andrew Brown was appointed the first Chief of Police of the new department. Chief Brown served in this role until 1994. In 1994 Hank Klein was appointed and served from 1994 to 1995 leaving to pursue a career out of state. In 1995 long time Sgt. Raymond Viger was promoted to Police Chief, and held the position from 1995 to 2005. Chief Viger was employed from (approximately) 1979 until his retirement in 2005 at the age of 70. In 2005 William Humphries was promoted to Chief and currently serves in this role. Humphries began employment in 1998 as a Patrolman.

The Police Department currently has four full time officers including the chief. The Department also has a School Resource Officer assigned to the Fair Haven Union Middle and High School, and a cadre of part time officers.

In addition to the Office, there is a Domestic Violence advocate which works with Both the Castleton Police and our agency. The Domestic Violence advocate is fully funded with a STOP DV grant obtained by the Rutland County Women’s network and shelter.
